Greetings and welcome to, Michael Hopkins Caricature's journey out of obscurity! My name is Michael Hopkins and I am creating a documentary about that journey. Although I have been drawing caricatures for over 40 years, I have struggled to expand my work, beyond my local reach. Sure, friends, family and a few clients (with a keen eye for quality artwork) have purchased and or enjoyed my work; however I have struggled to reach beyond those select few, to find a wider audience. So I have decided to do some network marketing to the United States of America.
My 12 year old son and I are taking a journey across the United States to share my art with the entire country, one caricature at a time. The ultimate goal of this journey is to find a wider audience for my artwork. The goal, as stated, is drawing one caricature, of (at least) one person, in every state in our country. Hopefully we can exceed this goal. Whenever possible I plan on attending and drawing caricatures at fairs, festivals and events, throughout the country.
Besides documenting the marketing my art to the country, this film will also document a father and son’s discovery of America. The plan is to start our journey in Dayton, Nevada (our home) and end the journey in Anchorage, Alaska. In each one of the 50 states, we will meet new people, discover their stories and draw at least one caricature (in every state) of the people we meet. At the end of our journey, we will have a portrait (err…caricature) of America, to share with the world, thru film.
Additionally I want this film to portray more than just the simple act of drawing 50 caricatures. I want the film to depict what it means to live your dreams, to follow one’s passion and to share that passion with the ones that you love. I am now 51 years old and I know that I’m on the last half of my journey. I’ve led an interesting life and as the song goes, “regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again too few to mention” …however, the two constants in my life remain the same, the love of my children and the passion for my art. That will be my legacy to them.
